Election Commission announces assembly by-elections in Jharkhand, Mizoram and Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi . Election Commission announced assembly by-elections in Jharkhand, Mizoram and Jammu-Kashmir.

Some assembly seats of Jharkhand, Mizoram and Jammu and Kashmir have recently become vacant, to fill which the Election Commission has fixed the dates for the election process. This by-election will be completed by 16 November. By-election is going to be held on 45-Ghatshila (ST) Assembly seat of Jharkhand (which fell vacant on August 15, 2025 due to the demise of Ram Das Soren). Announcing the dates of by-election for this seat, the Election Commission has said that the new MLA will be elected by November 16. The last date for nomination for the election will be 21st October. Nominations will be scrutinized on October 22 and candidates will be able to withdraw their names till October 24. Voting will take place on November 11. Voting time has been fixed from 7 am to 5 pm.

The 2-Dampa (ST) assembly seat of Mizoram also fell vacant when Lalrintluanga Sailo died on July 21, 2025. Here also the by-election is to be completed by 16 November. Here nominations will have to be submitted by 21st October, scrutiny of nominations will take place on 22nd October, candidates will be able to withdraw their names till 24th October. Voting will run from 7 am to 4 pm on November 11.

Seat number 77 of Nagrota Assembly constituency of Jammu and Kashmir fell vacant on October 31, 2024 due to the death of Devendra Singh Rana. Here also the Election Commission has decided to hold by-elections. The last date for nomination here has been fixed as October 20. Nominations will be scrutinized on October 22 and withdrawal of nominations will be allowed till October 24. The date of voting has been fixed for November 11. Voting will run from 7 am to 6 pm. For these three by-elections, the Election Commission has clarified that the election process will be conducted under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. All elections will be conducted in a fair, transparent and timely manner in accordance with the laws and rules.
