How to Reach Wayanad: Complete Guide by Road, Train & Flight

Planning your trip becomes much easier when you know how to reach Wayanad, one of Kerala’s most scenic hill districts. Although Wayanad doesn’t have its own airport or railway station, the region is well-connected through nearby transport hubs and good road routes.

By Flight:
Wayanad’s closest airports are Kannur International Airport (CNN) and Calicut/Kozhikode International Airport (CCJ). From these airports, you can hire a taxi, cab, or take a bus to reach main towns like Kalpetta, Sulthan Bathery, or Mananthavady. Driving times range from about 2 to 3 hours depending on the route and town.

By Train:
There is no direct railway station in Wayanad. The nearest major railheads are Kozhikode, Kannur, and Mysuru. After reaching one of these stations, you must continue by road via taxi, cab, or state transport buses to reach your destination within Wayanad.

By Road:
Road travel is the most common way to access Wayanad, whether you’re coming from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, or within Kerala. Popular routes include Mysuru → Bandipur → Sulthan Bathery, Kozhikode → Lakkidi → Kalpetta (with scenic hairpin bends), and Kannur → Periya → Mananthavady, among others. Numerous highways like NH 766 and state roads make the drive enjoyable and manageable.

Tips:
Plan your base town (Kalpetta, Sulthan Bathery or Mananthavady) to reduce travel time between attractions. Prepare for mountain roads with hairpin curves, especially during monsoon season.

Now you know how to reach Wayanad by flight, train and road—choose your preferred mode and enjoy the journey into this green wonderland.
