Congress takes a tough stand on US President’s statement, takes a dig at Modi

New Delhi. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made a new claim targeting PM Modi. Rahul Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is “scared” of US President Donald Trump. Rahul Gandhi said he allowed the US leader to “take a decision and announce” that India will not buy Russian oil and “keep sending congratulatory messages despite repeated ignoring”.

In fact, this statement of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi came at a time when Trump had claimed that Prime Minister Modi had assured him that India would stop buying oil from Russia. He described this step as a big step towards increasing pressure on Russia regarding its attack on Ukraine.

Trump given permission to announce
Rahul Gandhi wrote on Twitter, “Prime Minister Modi is afraid of Trump. He allowed Trump to take the decision and announce that India will not buy Russian oil. Keeps sending congratulatory messages despite repeated ignoring. Canceled the Finance Minister’s visit to America. Did not attend Sharm el-Sheikh. Does not oppose him on Operation Sindoor.”

What did the Congress General Secretary say?
Congress general secretary and communication in-charge Jairam Ramesh also targeted the government on this issue. He wrote on Twitter, On May 10, 2025, at 5:37 pm Indian time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was the first to announce that India had stopped Operation Vermillion. After this, President Donald Trump has claimed 51 times in five different countries that he intervened using tariffs and trade as weapons of pressure and forced India to stop Operation Vermillion. Still our Prime Minister remained silent.

Now President Trump has said yesterday that Prime Minister Modi has assured him that India will no longer import oil from Russia. It appears that Prime Minister Modi has handed over many of his important decisions to America. The 56 inch chest has now shrunk.

What did Trump claim?
It is noteworthy that while speaking to reporters in his Oval Office on Wednesday, Trump said that the US is not happy that India is buying crude oil from Russia, and argued that such purchases help finance President Vladimir Putin’s wars. Responding to a question, Trump said, “He (Modi) is my friend, we have a very good relationship… We were not happy with him buying oil from Russia because it gave Russia the opportunity to continue this senseless war in which they have lost 1.5 lakh people.”
