Green technology enters Army, e-buses purchased from JBM Auto

The Indian Army has signed a contract with JBM Auto Ltd to procure 113 electric buses and 43 fast chargers at a cost of ₹130.58 crore on 17 October 2025. This is the first such procurement by the Army, which is a major step towards a clean and green environment under the Prime Minister e-Drive initiative. With the induction of these electric buses, a new phase of technical and environmental improvement will begin in the three branches of the Army. This will reduce dependence on fossil fuels and promote green technology.

This purchase has been made under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, which is an excellent example of India’s indigenous manufacturing capacity and self-reliance. This step will not only modernize the defense forces but will also make a significant contribution towards the goal of self-reliant India and net zero carbon emissions.

113 electric buses included
The first electric buses have entered the Indian Army. Before this, many types of buses existed. Although they were based on fuel. The buses which have been included recently are completely electric. This means that now the tension of fuel will end. Along with this, it is being considered a good step for the environment. This bus gives a mileage of 250. This 40-seat bus will be deployed mainly in plains and hilly areas.

Many steps are being taken by the army
The Indian Army is constantly emphasizing on advancing itself. This is the reason why many advanced weapons have been inducted into the army within the last several months. Apart from this, work has also started on many such projects which will significantly increase the strength of the army in the coming time. Recently, the Army has purchased Light Weight Modular Missile (LMM) system from UK. It is a light and easy-to-carry missile system, which can be deployed anywhere including high hilly areas.
